So here’s another 3D Project from last year. The smallest stars are about the size of a pea and the bigger ones the size of a half dollar. I spent a good 2 weeks folding these little things but still didn’t quite make it to 1000 as per the assignment’s requirement…

One of my fondest childhood memories was making these with my little brother when I was younger. Since it’s modular origami, we would each fold a piece and I’d assemble the two halves at the end. I thought for sure I’d be sick of ninja stars once I’d finished this project, but I still love making them. Maybe it’s just because I miss my brother…

I gave it to away at the end of last year and heard from someone that it’s sitting in an office now. I hope whoever has it is taking good care of it.

An abandoned house of the Lower 9th Ward and a shot of the shelter by the amusement park in City Park.

The trees in New Orleans are so much older and more expressive than the frail, tame, little things I’m used to. There were all these silver-grey bushy garland-like growths (?) hanging from the branches. Like fox-tails. Or scraggly old Asian beards.

Selections from the French Quarter. Still classy and colorful.

Audobon Zoo, apparently the second best zoo in the country behind the San Diego Zoo.

I still kind of want to be a zookeeper…

(How many more times can/should I say the word “zoo”?)

The church we stayed at was within walking distance of the Superdome. Still so many signs of what happened 7 years ago…

The people have amazing resilience and incredibly generous spirits.

The Alternative Spring Break this year was in New Orleans. Took these at the Louis Armstrong Airport while waiting for the rental vans.

Here’s a bit of a change of scenery…A 3D project where I constructed cheap wooden frames and then proceeded to make life difficult for the janitors. They were stuck on with sticky tac so it wasn’t too much of a mess.¬†

Most of them were taken down within a week but some of the better hidden ones survived the rest of the year. I’ve always been amused by bathroom graffiti and I hope some other people took notice too. The experience was bizarre, a merging of a public art gallery experience with another more private one.

I still don’t know if this is something that would get me in trouble…

I was just messing around with some stuff and a friend ended up using this for a book called Illuminations. It was a really happy accident that I left so much space at the top for the title….

More big sky and some of my fellow workers.

I went on an Alternative Spring Break last year to Texas and thought it was about time to put these up. The sky there was expansive and unobstructed and got me into a rather pensive mood for landscapes…

No color touchups, no editing. I was pleasantly surprised by how decent some of these images turned out.
